I wanted to write about one of the quotes we had from the first lesson. It is a quote from Elder Ballard and the part that I liked the most was the part that read, "Often medias most devastating attacks on family are not direct or frontal or openly immoral...attacks are subtle and amoral"
As I thought about this, I thought a lot about television. Many shows have innuendos and, good heavens, I am guilty of shows that splash in an innuendo here and there and maybe that is the problem! It's like this subtle indirect way of exposing us to crap that is not what the gospel would have us be exposed to.
At the same time, I think that there is a lot that bothers people differently and I do honestly feel like everyone has a certain "line" that they draw for themselves as to what they feel is inappropriate. HOWEVER, it does make me think about the fact that maybe I am being desensitized a little bit and it's kind of scary to think about that you can e desensitized little by little without even knowing it!
Not to depress or think about the negative, I actually think it's great that leaders come out with these statements! It makes these things seem less scary and it makes these things seem conquerable. I also think that talks/statements and what not from church leaders help us re-evaluate what we are being exposed to and thus become better people and better examples.
That is so true Kelsilyn. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It can be kind of scary to think about the subtleties that do desensitize us. But our leaders are aware of it, and WE need to be aware of it, so that we can be on guard and filter for ourselves what is good or bad for us.
