Oscars

Can I just say I love the Oscars. I already posted on this but I just watched it Sunday and I have had a chance to digest everything and I figured I would post about it.

My husband and I love movies. So ridiculously much. Every year we watch as many as possible and we have a ballot competition. This year I won! But only by a fraction and it was mainly because of some few lucky guesses on some foreign films that haven't come out here yet.

Anyways, here are my highlights of the night:

1) Lupita Nyong'o- I loved when she said, "It doesn't escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else's. And so, I want to salute the spirit of Patsy for her guidance. And Solomon, thank you for telling her story and your own"

Loved it. If you have not read "12 Years A Slave" I highly recommend. It's a tough read (pretty violent as you would probably expect) but it's pretty incredible and moving. I learned later that this book was actually "lost" in that it was not being made anymore and through a series of events it was brought "out the dust" and made into this movie (Can't remember who was saying this- I think it was Brad Pitt in some interview, not sure). I think that is pretty awesome and it totally made me wonder how many books out there we have "lost" and I want to go find them now and read them. These books are people's lives and I love that by having them around we cherish their memories.

I also love Lupita as a person. She's so real and down to earth



2) Matthew McConaughey's speech- At first he says his hero was himself and I almost threw up. But then he said "My hero's always 10 years away. I'm never going to attain that. That keeps me with someone to keep on chasing." How many of us do that? I know I for one am always looking at myself maybe not 10, but more like 3-5 years ahead and I am always chasing that future and it keeps me excited and motivated. At the same time, I should cherish the moment but I think this concept is good to.

Also liked how he thanked God. I felt like everyone got awkward and tense but I feel it's important people respect those that believe in God too since they expect us to respect their beliefs. Good for McConaughey- he went from chickflick man to serious actor. And this story is also another story that has been "lost" and I'm glad they brought it back. It's an important one. Loved Jared Leto too.

Also everyone's all "he shouldn't win because he lost a bunch of weight" and while I don't *entirely* disagree with that statement----it is something to be recognized. He completely emotionally and physically transformed himself. Pretty cool . Below is his Oscar Speech and below it was him in the movie. Woosh- pretty big difference



5) Jennifer Lawrence reaction to Lupita Nyong'o winning the Oscar- I will jump on the JLaw love bandwagon. I've always loved her. She's hilarious. But her reaction was really great. Genuine excitement here. She was the first one I looked at when they announced the winner for best supporting actress. This picture isn't it (I couldn't find one) but it sums up her usual reactions. She never ceases to make me laugh or like her in general



4) Ellen and her Pizza antic- I know this is very popular with everyone and I agree. It was so fun. I loved her hosting in general. She did not seem like she had a nervous bone in her body. She was so fun and I love love loved that. Loved the Pizza joke because a) The guy who brought the pizza had no idea he was going to be delivering pizza to a bunch of celebrities at the Oscars b) Brad Pitt was handing out plastic plates c) Ellen asks for tips for the guy (later, on her show, he ends up getting a thousand bucks haha) d) Harrison Ford spilled the pizza down the front of his tux



5) This picture. I love it not because it is the "most tweeted picture" but because they all look so happy. Genuinely happy. No standing in front of the camera with their hand on their hip showing off their gown or whatever. Genuine happiness. I think sometimes celebrities almost seem fictional and that's why I like this picture---they look like real people with real emotions.




6) I love this picture. So many funny things happened at this Oscars and I kinda loved the quirky easiness of it all. But this picture, oh my. I feel like this would be me. Liza Minnelli and me have the same curse of shortness and I often feel this way. LIKE NOBODY CAN EVER SEE ME and it's not that I WANT to be noticed 90% of the time but it would be nice to have tall people not walk into me and say "oh whoops I didn't see you there you're so little"...thanks, as if I didn't not already know that since 5th grade when I stopped growing and everyone else kept growing. On top of that..do you know what it feels like when someone gives you a hug and you're short??? My face goes straight into another person's chest. It's not fun people. it's not fun. Not only can I not breathe, it's incredibly awkward.

ANYWAYS- Liza Minnelli--She is quite the odd ball but I can't help but remember she's Judy Garland's child and then I get all mushy and gushy and wish she was still alive to sing to us all. I'm also digging that she's wearing a bright blue pant suit. I mean not baby blue, not turqoise, ROYAL BLUE PANT SUIT people. I'm diggin' it.
